The unprecedented pace of progress of science while rendering immense good to humanity poses many questions too. Science may claim self sufficiency which is apt to create a Godless and religion-less society which will undoubtedly prove disastrous to the society at large. This threat was duly sensed by the educational experts and they called for a detailed study and report on the matter. Real science must in fact lead men to God, the creator and provider of the universe. Scientists only discover what is already in this habitat using the wonderful intelligence given to them by God, in whose ‘image and likeness’ man is created. It is the bounden duty of man to make the universe more useful to humanity and the earth more habitable.
Man is “the roof and crown of creation” and the whole universe is entrusted to him. He is therefore bound in duty and conscience to protect, promote, nature and perfect it using his intelligence which only he is endowed with. This is the basis and raison d’etre of “Sasthrapadham”. The church ever intent and responsible towards the young has decided to provide pupils and students in general with science and science values. To cater to this need the corporate managements of schools of the Archdiocese of Changanassery and the dioceses of Palai and Kanjirappally rose to the occasion and courageously launched a common forum by registering Science Education Trust Kottayam (SET) (Reg. No. 179/1989) in 1989. The same year SET began to bring out “Sasthrapadham”, a science magazine for the young. It is functioning with registered office at Changanassery, editing and publishing at Palai and academic activities at Kanjirappally.
